Aw Mate, is a New Zealand raised thoroughbred sporthorse with great prospects for the future.
This spirited gelding has the attitude and the natural abilities that make him a great prospect for a career in showjumping, showhunter or eventing.
He has three beautiful paces and a jump that demonstrates real power and great technique.
He tackles every fence with boldness and enthusiasm.
Aw Mate was originally bred in Australia, before importation here to New Zealand and raced under the name Great Commission.
Since purchasing him from his trainer I originally focused on his flatwork and now have the basics well established. Lateral movements such as leg yielding and shoulder-in are now performed with ease in all gaits.
His free flowing paces will give him an edge in the dressage phase, while his athletic ability demonstrates a tremendous aptitude towards jumping.
This horse is very much a people's horse and loves attention. A few titbits never go amiss.
He is certainly a real character with a very cheeky personality.
Currently competing in classes up to 1.25m and jumped up 1.35m at home.
This horse is suitable for any rider with ambition to take him further in eventing, showhunter or showjumping.
Aw Mate has recently been purchased by Emma Jessop. Emma is a student of Massey University at Palmerston North, New Zealand and is studying Equine Science.
She is planning to compete Aw Mate in Showjumping and a little bit of eventing. We wish Emma the best of luck with her new partnership with Aw Mate.
